On Aug. 27, Destination DC (DDC) hosted its Annual Marketing Outlook Meeting, where we revealed our plans for 2020, including our new marketing campaign, “Stay Local DC”. A special thank you to The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and The REACH for playing host to our members. Additional thanks to our fantastic speakers as well as all of our wonderful sponsors who helped us share great news about Washington, DC visitation with 610 attendees. In 2018, DC saw 23.8 million visitors total, marking a ninth straight record-breaking year. If you missed anything from the meeting, head over to the Member Extranet for key materials, and make sure to post your Stay Local DC deals for this fall and winter.
Congratulations to the American Experience Foundation on being named Outstanding Industry Partner by the DC Career Academy Network, a part of Washington, DC’s Office of the State Superintendent for Education. DDC also recently took home Brand USA’s inaugural Video Storytelling Award at the U.S. Travel Association’s ESTO conference for “The Arts District” video series. This remarkable project spearheaded by our marketing team has now won six industry awards in total.
We’ve outfitted washington.org with content to help visitors build a great fall itinerary, including events, deals and plenty of arts and culture. Our Official Visitors Guide for the fall and winter will be in-market on Sept. 18 and online on Sept. 19.
From Sept. 2-6, I participated in a sales and media mission to Australia with DDC’s tourism and marketing teams. The mission marked our first with our new in-country office, Canuckiwi, and we hosted our very first international consumer event in Sydney. I’m currently at IMEX America in Las Vegas, which features more than 3,500 exhibitors from more than 150 countries in addition to education sessions with numerous chances to connect with current and potential clients.
